Myths are never in short supply, and myths about the topic of abortion are likewise plentiful. One of the most asinine myths about abortion, though, is the idea that men should either be silent about the issue or side with whatever a woman says about it. Far from being a correct stance, this position merely tries to reframe the subject in a way that contradicts reality by holding abortion to be something that is ultimately of no concern to men.
There are far more sexist double standards--affecting both genders--present in everyday life than the average person is observant enough to notice, and yet they are not concealed. All of them are in some way celebrated by an ignorant crowd, whether by a minority or a majority, and that celebration is always rooted in stupidity and hypocrisy. The idea that abortion does not concern men is no exception.
Some actually claim that it is misogynistic for a man to oppose abortion. As even brief reflection can expose, this is an utterly inane position. It is treating abortion as if men have no right to rationally expound upon the subject that is itself sexist, not the condemnation of abortion. Furthermore, a consistent feminist would not only reject the misandry of saying otherwise, but would also affirm the humanity of unborn girls and boys. This is the only consistent human rights stance on the issue.
If a person is a true feminist, it is because they realize that if men have certain rights simply by virtue of being human, women do as well (and vice versa). If being human means that one has certain rights irrespective of whether they are recognized, then the unborn by logical necessity possess these same rights. Thus, the very basis for feminism is irreconcilable with pro-abortion ideology. Abortion concerns men just as much as it concerns women, as it kills human beings of both genders.
Then there is also the fact that moral obligations are shared by men and women alike, as well as the fact that reason, the key to knowledge, is available to men and women alike. Someone's gender does not validate or invalidate their worldview. Those who think otherwise are ironically guilty of sexism, the very thing they might mistake themselves for condemning in the first place.
Logic, people. It is very fucking helpful.
